| Description: | The more than four century long interaction between Western and Chinese traditions in Macao, the first and last European colony in China, has left the city with a unique blend of cultural diversity, modernity, and cosmopolitanism. Join us at this world heritage site for ICAS 8. The ICAS Book Prize (IBP) was established by the International Convention of Asia Scholars in 2004. It aims to create an international focus for publications on Asia while increasing their worldwide visibility. The biennial ICAS Book Prize is awarded for outstanding English-language works in the field of Asia Studies. It is our pleasure to announce the long lists for the ICAS Book Prize (IBP) 2013. No less than 250 books were submitted by 60 publishers worldwide. 12 books in both the categories Humanities and Social Sciences were longlisted (www.icassecretariat.org/long-lists-ibp-2013). The number of PhDs submitted tripled now reaching 100 in total. The Reading Committee selected 8 PhD dissertations for the Humanities as well as for the Social Sciences category (www.icassecretariat.org/long-lists-phd-thesis-icas-phd-prize-2013). The polling booth for the IBP Colleagues' Choice award is open as of today. It will close on 21 June so you have three months to vote for your favorite book (www.icassecretariat.org/colleagues-choice-award-2013). The exhibition hall at ICAS 8 will accommodate booths from international publishers and institutes, an art exhibition, a cinema for film and video screenings and a café with food concession stands. A wide range of reading materials will be available and there will also be a meeting area for visitors and delegates to interact and socialize. To promote your institute or publications check out the website (www.icas8.com/EN/ExhibitAdvertise/Home/Index/6) for more information on reserving a booth or advertising in the programme book.
