		<description>This is a call for papers for a panel at the 20th IPPA congress to be held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, 12-18 January, 2014 -- please circulate to any scholars who would like to join us (a group of 5 so far, with people to speak on new uses of Myanmar art, Chinese Neolithics, Buddhist boats, theme park primitives, and more).

This panel explores how remains of the past, or past cultural traditions, are used in the present for new purposes. Participants take perspectives from the field of anthropology, archaeology, art, and related disciplines and bring them to bear on how the ruins of the past, cultural traditions or ancient histories are reinterpreted and given new meanings in the present, whether in literature, in museums, in advertising, in political schemes, in art, in theme parks, in cyberspace, or at other sites.
